A Guerra Social em Portugal (1976)

Instigated by French Philosopher Guy Debord, Paris-based Spanish scholar Jaime Semprun visited Portugal briefly during PREC (Processo Revolucionário em Curso) and produced this pamphlet in French which largely crystallized an initial enthusiasm for the Portuguese Revolution and a disillusion/critique of its subsequent direction. This Portuguese translation by Moraes Editores followed in 1976.

Hilariously, the back cover barely reads as an endorsement: "A controversial—and often aggressive—book. The Portuguese Revolution and the social struggles it sparked (or exacerbated), viewed from the outside through Jaime Semprun’s (debatable) perspective. Political parties and their actions. The structures and contradictions of political power. The social forces in conflict. The evolution of a revolutionary process. A “reading” of the Portuguese revolution that, although highly debatable, nonetheless (or perhaps precisely because of this) deserves our attention.
