Leather-bound French edition of Jean Cocteau's Les Enfants Terribles (in English, The Holy Terrors). The gold-embossed drawings on the cover are Jean Cocteau's own, along with the illustrations in the book.
First published in 1929, Jean Cocteau’s Les Enfants terribles narrates the story of a brother and sister, orphaned in their youth, who retreat into an intense private world built within a single shared room and sustained by their fantasies. What begins as playful invention gradually deepens into an all-consuming attachment. The act that ultimately brings about their downfall unfolds with a tragic inevitability reminiscent of classical drama.
The book was made into a movie in 1950, a collaboration between Cocteau and director Jean-Pierre Melville and inspired Bernardo Bertolucci's 2003 film The Dreamers.
Hardcover with pink leather and gold-embossed drawings.
